Day 9 Pompeii/ Coast of Amalfi (History) (Natural Environment x2)

Image result for PompeiiFor Day 9 we woke up at around 5 AM so we could drive to Pompeii and make it there in time to eat breakfast at the Gran Caffe Ciorfito where we each got some delicious breakfast cakes and pastries to start our day. After our breakfast we went downtown to tour some of the historical sites scattered around Pompeii (HISTORY), the first place we went to was called the Villa of Mysteries. The Villa of Mysteries was in very good condition considering its age and the fact that a volcano erupted all over it. The first room we went to was the reason the the Villa was so famous, the room was filled with roman paintings which we heard was interpreted as a woman getting initiated into a secret cult. The rest of the house wasn't as interesting but we did get to see some of the human casts from the old inhabitants of Pompeii which had been entombed by the volcano Mt. Vesuvius  which we all hoped to see more of. The next house that we toured was the Temple of Apollo which was right across the street form The Villa, the Temple of Apollo which is dedicated the the Greek and Roman god Apollo. The temple is said to be the most important religious building in the entire city of Pompeii, it was really cool because we got to see the statues and the architecture of that time that had been preserved for almost 2000 years. After looking at all of the amazing historical buildings and hearing about the history of a lot of it, because we were following a tour group around the two houses we went to lunch at the Ristorante Pizzaria Carlo Alberto, where we split a homemade margherita pizza with dress mozzarella cheese.

We planned on bringing at least two of them back to the house we were staying in where we could sit on the porch and watch the sunset over the water. When we got to the Air bnb, we unpacked and went out to a hiking trail called The Path of the Gods, (NATURAL ENVIRONMENT) where we walked up the cliff-side of the Amalfi Coast, dangerously close to falling off for most of the hike. But it was definitely worth it because of the amazing views and the giant lemons we took back home.

A terrace with a viewWhen we got to the house, we sat on the porch and watched the golden sunset before walking downtown to the Pizzeria Ai Galli. Each of us got a different type of pasta, it was really good and you could definitely tell the difference between that and Olive Garden. After dinner we walked around the city and went to a couple stores and the market just to see what life was like there, we even met this really nice kid that was about our age how helped us find good spots in the city and translate for us. He even showed us this really good dessert shop that sold great cannolis. We took the cannolis back to the house and ate them while watching the sunset over the water.
