Day 6 Pisa (History)

Image result for pancakes and italian sausageOn day six, our phone alarms went off and we all woke up in a hurry, eager to get on the road to Pisa after a long day before. Everyone started fighting for a spot in the bathroom, and there were a few punches here and there. At around 7:30, we were all in the car with our bags, ready for the hour-long drive that was waiting for us. Before we did anything in Pisa, we stopped by the Caffè dell'Oro, where everyone piled their plates high with delicious breakfast buffet food. Luke got the pancakes with salsiccia, which was a dish of buttery warm pancakes and special Italian sausages. The sausage was phenomenal, and the pancakes complimented the sausages perfectly. Blake got an exquisite croissant, with an egg white omelet freshly prepared and stuffed with vegetables, fried potatoes, and mushrooms. The omelet was destroyed in about thirty seconds, which earned Blake some strange looks from the other diners sitting around us. After we were all full, we checked in to our Air BnB which had a really nice scenic walkway to the front of the house. We packed peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, grapes, and breakfast pastries in our bags and headed out to the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

(HISTORY) When we arrived at the tower, we got in line to climb the many flights of stairs up to see the view from the top. It was a long climb, as the line moved extremely slowly since everyone wanted to soak int the experience of being on the tower. At the top, we were all tired from the long climb and walked back down, getting plenty of artistic pictures from the windows in the tower. We all pulled out our paper bags and ate our pastries on the lawn in front of the tower, unfortunately halfway through our lunch Brayden thought the Tower was falling and ran over to the Piazza dei Miracoli and hid behind. When we finished eating our lunches we walked over to the Piazza dei Miracoli which Brayden was still cowering behind, We were lucky that Brayden ran over there because we weren't planning on going there but when we figured out it is a major part of Medieval European Art, and is one of best examples of architecture in the world we knew he had to at least take a peek. We went inside and toured the huge gallery of art dating back to the sixth century, most of the art that we saw was heavily tied to religion which contrasts to today where most of our art is abstract meaning you have to determine what it means to you.

Soon, the smell of something pleasant started coming from the kitchen and made everyone hungry. Unfortunately, I had not had much experience with cooking so the recipe soon took a bad turn. Pasta started spilling out onto the ground as the dish started boiling over. We scrapped the cooking idea and Blake looked up restaurants nearby and found a place with solid reviews called L'Ostellino. We all got a fresh Panini made with aged cheddar cheese and flatbread that was amazing. Energized from our sandwiches, we took a short walk to the Lions Gate, which was a  landmark in Pisa. It was pretty interesting, and we walked back to the car shortly afterward to get back to the Air BnB. We all fell asleep fast after the long day of sightseeing and good food.
