I woke up to sunlight streaming into my eyes as Jack threw open the curtains to wake everyone up. It had already been a week, and I was a little sad that the trip would be coming to an end soon. As soon as our group was ready to go, we ran down to the car and drove to the Galileo Art Cafe for breakfast. I had already seen the menu, and the egg platter seemed extremely appetizing at the time. We all ordered a cappuccino, a roll, and eggs and shortly after, they were sizzling on our plates. They smelled delicious and we were ready to enjoy this great food. We took our time eating the meal, savouring this great Italian dish. I don't normally drink coffee, but this was the best one I had ever tasted.
It was pretty late in the morning, and so when we arrived in Spoleto, it was around noon. We all agreed that we were hungry, even though the eggs had been delicious. There was a cool little place called Tiempo Del Gusto on the side of the road, and we decided to stop there before checking into the hotel. There wasn't really a menu, which we thought was interesting. There was just a sheet of paper that listed out what they would be serving us. Everyone got started with shrimp and smoked salmon, and then a small chestnut salad. It was probably the most the greatest appetizer ever, because we each got a slice of salmon and one shrimp, making it very filling. The salad was sort of tiny, and we were all hungry again by the time the first course came out. The first course was amazing, and everybody was full and ready for a nap when we were done. Half of the plate was a pasta with duck and a red wine sauce, and the other half was a chicken, turkey, and beef dish with fruit and potatoes. We were full, so no one really ate dessert, and we all felt bad when they came back to take our plates with untouched apple strudels on them. They smelled amazing though, it was too bad that we couldn't eat them. We checked into the Dukes Hotel, and then drove to the Duomo Di Spoleto, which was a touring building that is popular in Spoleto.(HISTORY) At the Duomo Di Spoleto, we saw giant churches and cathedrals, filled with crazy European history and stories. The architecture was beautiful, and the artwork was even better. The tour guides told us that it hadn't been restored since everything was originally painted and constructed, but no one hardly noticed. After the two hour tour, we walked around outside to try to get some good pictures of the church. Sadly though, it started to storm, and we ran back to the car. We drove back to the hotel, and watched the storm move throughout the valley that the hotel was in, through the giant windows overlooking the small Roman theater and the surrounding hills. It turned dinner time, but nobody even mentioned it because of how full we were from the giant lunch that we had earlier. We just laid down in our rooms and watched TV, munching on small snacks like popcorn and chex mix. The rain was extremely soothing against the windows and old walls of the hotel, and everyone began to drift off into sleep at around ten o' clock.
