On day 5, we slept in a little because we didn't have anything planned till later in the day. At around 10, we came downstairs to the sight of a huge table filled with food of all kinds. At the buffet we all had Belgian Waffles with whip cream and fruit along with some sausage. After breakfast we went to the Piazza Santa Croce which is right in front of the church Santa Croce, we were there for a Florentine Game and this location is where they had been held since the 1500's. (SPORTS) Florentine Football is a combination of soccer, rugby, and wrestling which originated in 16th century Florence and is still played with the same historical costume players wore back then. There are four teams that are divided by neighborhood. The games are played in a tournament style where two teams face each other in a semifinal, and the winner of that game plays the other winner in a final game. The day we were there we watched the Santo Spirito's play the San Giovanni's, the game was very brutal and it looked like not many people were paying to much attention to scoring the ball and were just out there to fight as many people as possible. It was very fun to watch as the crowd was really hype and every time someone scored it went absolutely nuts. The game ended up being very close with the Santo Spirito's pulling out a win, and there were 15 people knocked out at different times throughout the game.
After the exciting game, we went to the SandwiChic which is a little hole in the wall sandwich shop that Blake found on YELP because it had great reviews. Jack got by far the best sandwich which consisted of a made from scratch Brioche bread, Artisan Sbriciolona, Pecorino, Pears, and Cinnamon Jam. After lunch, we went on a sightseeing tour that took us to the Florentine Cathedral, the Santa Maria Del Fiore, and the Palazzo Pitti I think that the best part was the Palazzo Pitti because we got walk around inside and see all of the insanely good artwork of the Renaissance. When we were done touring we were all very hungry so we went to the hotel restaurant and ate and headed up to the roof to go swimming again.
