Day 4 Modena/Florence (Technology) (Culture) (History)

On day four we got started with a hearty breakfast from the local Modena Cafe Mon Café which had truly amazing brioches covered in chocolate, cream, fruit, and honey. From there it was just a quick seven-minute drive to the Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari which highlights the life and work of Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the Ferrari Sports car Marque. (TECHNOLOGY) Here we saw many of the cool cars Ferrari created over the years, my favorite being the Laferrari Spyder which had a smooth but flashy look. Unfortunately for me, it costs 3.9 million dollars which is just a tad bit outside of my price range. I'd be lucky if my first car is worth more than $10,000. We spent about an hour and a half there, learning about and seeing the history and the future of the company, with some new models that will be released to the public in the next few years.

Next, we went back to Air Bnb to pack up our things because after lunch we were heading to our next destination of Florence. For lunch, we went to the Osteria Francescana which is rated by food critics as the best restaurant

Each one of us got a extravagant three-course meal, Blake got Tagliatelle with hand cut meat ragu as his first course which rang in at an astounding € 60 which is about $70. Tagliatelle (CULTURE) is a traditional form of pasta from Emilia-Romagna which is where the head chef is from and on which a lot of the menu was based on. The best dish that we ordered from the second course was the Ox rib-eye served with pickled vegetables, extra virgin olive oil potatoes, and black truffle that jack ordered which cost € 80 which is about $90 which almost cost as much as our Air Bnb that we stayed in that day. Finally, for the Final and best course, desert Will got the Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate... which is a 3 layer chocolate cake with a thick layer of creamy chocolate gnoche draped over it, and is the best chocolate cake I have ever had each layer had a different consistency and taste ranging from a bitter pure dark chocolate to a sweet milk chocolate. This dish ended up costing € 30 which is equal to $35, the grand total, and I mean grand for all five of us was €880 which is $1032.72, meaning that this meal cost more than one of our plane tickets.

Since we had a decently lengthy 2 hour trip to our hotel in Florence we decided to stop about half way and visit the Monte Sole National Park, the national park is dedicated to the Nazi Massacre there in 1944 during World War II. (HISTORY) The Park was really cool, we were able to walk around old ruins of buildings that were bombed. Once we finished up there we finished the last hour of the drive arriving at the hotel at about 3:30. We ended up getting burgers from the hotel bar, then spending the rest of the night on the rooftop pool which had a breathtaking view of the Florence Skyline.
